Tips on How to Pick Dental Equipment

Dental equipment may either help your practice fail or succeed. Therefore, it is advisable to pick the finest. Amalgamators, drills, chairs, sterilizers, suction tubes and hand pieces are some of the equipment and they can be gotten from dental supplies’ shops. Shops with good reputation should be your first stop when purchasing quality equipment. On the other hand, you should consider that a number of stores have a bad reputation. A good number aim at swindling you. The fact that fine dental equipment is long lasting is the reason you should opt for it. As well, it necessitates nominal maintenance.

Carefully choose a dental equipment store. Compare the equipment, services and prices provided by two or three shops prior to making your selection. Since most companies advertise their equipment online, the internet is the best place to do so. Numerous companies vend the equipment there. Nevertheless, it is crucial that you pick one that in addition to selling dental equipment at practical prices, also offers customer support. The company should demonstrate how to operate the equipment and also how to trouble shoot. Additionally, it should offer support for any technical problems that you may experience at no extra cost.

If you are looking to buy dental equipment, you ought to consider the internet. A good number of stores vend their wares online as a way of reaching more customers. Purchasing the equipment online is the way to go. This is especially true if you do not have the time to go to the store. Moreover, it is convenient as you can do it from the comfort of your office. You will have the equipment delivered straight to your doorstep. Always ask for a discount when purchasing more than one piece of dental equipment. This will help you in cutting down costs.

Cost is one of the most important things you will have to consider when buying dental equipment. The market is abounding with pricey as well as reasonably priced equipment. Note that price does not always equate quality. Sometimes, the most expensive equipment is not always of the best quality. Be sure to shop around and make numerous price comparisons before making your decision. If you know of someone who has purchased dental equipment before, do not be afraid of talking to them. They are best placed to offer you information on the best place to obtain equipment for your dental practice.

It is misguided to rush through the dental equipment purchasing process. Taking one’s time helps makes certain that at the end of it all, you have the very best. Use as much time as is necessary researching on the sort of tools you need. Get all the details you can on the sort of equipment you need to buy. See what your colleague’s views are and think about asking them to come with you to the shop when making the purchase. Dental equipment stores that provide after sales services and discounts in addition to charging realistic prices are what you should settle for.

We put a chair massager in a brand new Belmont Quolis chair for our showroom. We have sold a handful to dentist in the midwest. The patients love them. The massager is pretty strong and massages the back and bottom. The patient controls the speed and strength of the massage.  We love them, the Dr's love them, and so do the patients. BIG DENTAL, BIG POCKETS, LITTLE SUPPORT AND SMALLER KNOWLEDGE

BIG DENTAL COMPANIES ARE BIG busiLESS. I took my third visit to the Chicago Midwinter dental show last March and was pretty impressed by the "big guys" showbooths. Big, beautiful, flashy, and expensive are the adjectives that came to my mind first. After a long stare at the booth I moved my eyes on the sales team manning the booth. They looked nice in there suits and I was impressed by there professionalism. I than approached a conversation between a salesman and a Dr. and couldn't believe what I was hearing. I heard a 5 minute rave about a particular piece of equipment I put on my technician recommended: DO NOT SELL LIST.

This triggered my first question: My question is where are the service guys? They fix the crap these sales guys are selling. I know they're not always pretty and might not communicate as well as a salesman but that brings me to what I like about them. The service guys or techs are usually brutally honest about what equipment they like and dislike, they know what brakes all the time, and what manufacturer gives them the best support for your broken chair or autoclave. Well I asked for a BIG DENTAL tech and my answer: "they don't wear suits".  The smirk of the guy gave me the answer to my second question.

Where are all the service guys, was my second question to myself.  Answer: Many good technicians or service guys do not stay at the big companies, the BEST get a small following and start their own company.

The best resource for your new dental chair, light, autoclave, or x-ray is not your BIG DENTAL sales person.

What to Look for When Buying Used Dental Equipment

Serial Number:
The first thing you should ask for is a serial number. If there is no serial number available be cautious.  The serial number can tell you how old the chair is and if there are parts available for the machine. If there are no parts available you are in trouble.

Warranty:
Not everyone offers warranties but usually on quality equipment a company will offer a limited 90 day limited warrantly on mechanicals. If there is no warranty we would recommend not buying the equipment. The repairs could cost more than the equipment is worth.

The Person or Company You are Buying from:
The company or person you are buying from is very important. Just a like buying a used car look into where the equipment came from, how they got it, and how long they've been selling equipment. Fly by night people will usually give you a great deal on a bad product.

Your Concerns About Going Digital Answered

Going digital is easier than you think. There is an initial investment of about $10,000 but you will  make your money back in the first year (depending on your office size & popularity) by saving on film.

Digital Sensors:
Digital senors are very user friendly. Digital sensor transer the x-ray image directly to your computer in seconds. The sensor is placed into a patients mouth; a xray is taken and the data is uploaded into your patient managment system.  What do you need to go digital:  Computer, Digital Senors, X-ray, Software, and Dispoable Sleeves for Patient and Sensor Protection.

Phsophor Plates:
Phosphor plates form and store temporary images of an incoming x-ray. A plate can be erased and reused thousands of times. Phospor plates are placed in the patients mount and protected by plastic disposable sleeves. The phospor plate is scanned by a machine and processed by software into your patient management system.

Buying a Practice? What You Should Look For

BUYING A PRACTICE? What you need to know about the equipment inside
  • A second opinion: Ask your favorite service guy to evaluate the dental equipment in the new office. He can help you determine
    what it's worth to you.
  • Ask for equipment serial numbers. Serial numbers can give you a lot of information that includes: date manufactured,
warranty information, and if parts still available for the equipment
  • Are the cabinets made for dental? Dental cabinets are serialized and worth more money. Dental cabinets also have a lot of
    features made for dental procedures.

Dental Office Marketing

UPDATING YOUR OFFICE: 5 easy tips
  • Change the color of your disposables: Green and White cups and bibs are boring. Update your office with some color. A bib color like yellow can stimulate patient's in positive ways.
  • Change your tubing: While changing the color of your disposables is small way of adding color, changing your tubing color will really make a statement. Delivery (asepsis) tubing comes in a multitude of colors and can really look cool. Just remember to stick with one color.
  • Reupholster old chairs. For under 600 dollars a chair you can make your equipment look like new. Add a massager and show patients you care about their comfort.
  • Gadgets look cool and work great. Stick an eBite from Sota into a patient's mouth to improve your practice's image and eliminate dark spots in the mouth.
  • Go digital: for the price of a laptop and a digital kit you can be filmless in a day. Going digital is EASY and FAST.
  • We created this blog to inform our customers on how to repair or prevent small dental office equipment problems.
MARKETING YOUR OFFICE: 3 ways to maximize your marketing efforts
    • Sell comfort 1st and services 2nd. Comfort is king! On your site, in your newsletter, and mailings remember to sell your office's points of comfort. A friendly staff, plush seating areas, and chair massagers should be a clear message to your patients.
    • Remember the human touch. Friendly reminders, written or signed by the Dr. is important. A little note on their reminder cards can go a long way.
    • Be a social networking monster. The more fans your Dr. has on facebook = a large pressence. Your website is great but facebook it better.
